A Colorful Connecticut Colonial Home in Ink and Watercolor
This charming Colonial in Bolton, Connecticut, was commissioned as a gift for a friend who had recently sold her home. The 8x10 ink and watercolor painting captures the character of the house, from its periwinkle-blue siding and red front door to the classic five-over-four window arrangement, centered entryway, garden and breezeway.
The client also asked for two very specific additions: a tiny wreath on the front door, because her friend always hung one there, and a little planter beside the garage. They may be small, but they’re the details that made the painting personal—and definitely worth breaking out the magnifying lamp for.
After plenty of beige houses and brick, getting to paint these pops of color was a welcome change. The flowers, blue siding and red door gave me a lot more to play with than my usual neutral house portrait palette. And honestly, I’ll never complain about getting to paint a red front door.
