I recently had the exhilarating experience of live painting guest portraits at the lovely fall wedding of clients, Ashley and Chandler. With a guest count of 220, it was going to be a busy evening painting wedding guests as quickly as I possibly could.
"It was a pleasure to have you! Our guests, Chandler and I love how all the portraits turned out!! Thank you again!"
The wedding venue was the Captain's Club Golf & Event Center in Grand Blanc, Michigan, about an hour away. And as usual, I brought my "assistant" husband along to be my chauffeur and photographer, among other responsibilities.
We arrived an hour prior as the elegant grand ballroom was being set up for the festivities. Guest portrait painting began during cocktail hour and continued into the reception. It's always fun when I get to paint and dance at the same time!
At one point, my husband shoved a single bruschetta appetizer into my mouth, but otherwise I don't think I stopped painting for more than a second the entire evening. Although the goal isn't to paint every single guest, I always try to accommodate as many as possible—and boy did we ever have a steady line of eager guests!
After the wedding, the portrait painting continued at home in my studio. I finished a few extra guest portraits and painted a Storybook Style watercolor of the newlyweds based on a favorite photo from their wedding.
Congrats Ashley and Chandler, thanks for inviting me to paint your special day!
