A Storybook Tudor in Watercolor: The Wedding Gift That Won Over the In-Laws

hand-painted custom watercolor house portrait

Some houses just beg to be painted—and this English Tudor in Mount Kisco, New York was one of them. With its storybook wood door, whimsical dovecote, and covered arbor, it’s the kind of home that looks like it wandered out of a fairytale and settled into Captain Merritt's Hill neighborhood back in 1932.

When my client reached out, she told me her fiancé grew up in this home and that his mother had just decided to sell. She wanted a way to keep it in the family forever—and she needed it in time to give as a gift on the morning of their June wedding. No pressure, right?

Happily, I was able to deliver the finished portrait in time, complete with all the little details that made the house theirs: the basketball hoop tucked through the arched walkway, the forest of mature trees stretching above the roofline, and the lush shrubbery worthy of a magazine spread. She later wrote in a glowing a Etsy review:

"Absolutely fantastic gift! The painting was perfect... 12/10 recommend!"

The house itself just sold this summer, and by the charming looks alone, it’s no surprise. But while the new owners will soon move in, this family will always have a hand-painted reminder of the home where so many memories were made. And that’s exactly why I love what I do.
