It's always too hot, it's always too crowded, still the Ann Arbor Art Fair is one of my favorite annual summer events. This year, we took all 3 kids to walk around for as long as everyone--and my "old lady" feet--would last. It is the largest juried art fair nationwide and spans the 30 blocks in downtown Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan campus.
As usual after a long car ride, our adventure started with a potty break in the Student Union. And that brought us out to The Cube (my quick 5 minute watercolor sketch is shown above) where my kids had fun spinning it around and chasing each other in circles.
We walked and walked and walked some more. We stopped at my freshman dorm South Quad. I pointed out various landmarks and bored everyone with stories about back when I was at U of M. And I made my annual pledge to apply for a booth at next year's art fair... it will happen someday.
After a food truck picnic near the live music stage, we walked around some more and then the kids turned cranky so it was time to go. On our way back to the car, I spotted a booth sponsored by Stamps School of Art & Design (where I earned my BFA in Scientific Illustration--GO BLUE!), and the ladies encouraged us to, "Take as many stickers as you'd like! Take one of each!" and so we did!
There's so much to see and do that we didn't get around to but my sore feet and sunburn told me we left just in time. Then again, there's always next year!
