Painting a Dearborn Home Filled with 40+ Years of Family Memories

After decades of raising their family there, this home in Dearborn, Michigan recently sold, making the painting an especially meaningful way to preserve a place filled with memories. The 11×14 ink and watercolor was commissioned as a gift for my client’s in-laws, whose charming brick colonial had been their family home for more than 40 years.
"Thank you for the beautiful painting of my in-laws' home. I know they will love it. Thanks so much!" —Audrey
Built in 1927, the almost 100-year-old home has an alluring Colonial exterior with unique Gothic Revival details, along with a large front garden, mature trees, ironwork and plenty of architectural details that make it distinctly theirs. My client sent over a collection of photos, and I pieced together the details from those images to create one finished composition that captured the home as they knew it.
The brickwork alone gave me approximately 4,000 million tiny bricks to sketch and paint. (Okay, maybe not quite that many—but it certainly felt like it.) Between the brick patterns, ironwork, garden, trees, and all the little details around the house, there was no shortage of things to keep my pens busy.
I love knowing this painting will give them a way to hold onto a home that was part of their family for so many years.
