The Harbor Steak House in Keego Harbor, Painting a Retirement Gift

Updated: Nov 24

Harbor Steak House, Keego Harbor Michigan

Keego Harbor, a small town in metro Detroit, Michigan, is known as the "Heart of Lakes" as its nestled among several. In fact, the name "keego” means “fish” in Ojibwa, derived from the Longfellow Poem, The Song of Hiawatha.

The Harbor Steak House on Orchard Lake Road in Keego Harbor was founded in 1961 by the Giordano family. The neighborhood restaurant has been serving classic steaks and seafood dishes to the local community for decades.

"We gifted The Giordanos on the day we closed on the Harbor Steak House. Jeff and Tina really loved this piece of art. Thank you very much for all of your amazing work on this project."

Restaurant owners Jeff and Tina Giordano recently sold their beloved family restaurant and the new owner commissioned me to paint it as a retirement gift for the couple (pictured below).

One thing I always enjoy about illustrating businesses is capturing details in the signage and logo, and in this painting I was also challenged to depict the three tiny stained glass windows along the facade, all with nautical themed imagery.

I remember eating at Harbor Steak House as a kid with my family, and I look forward to trying it again soon once it's "refreshed" and reopens under new management.

Happy Retirement, Jeff and Tina, enjoy your painting!
