Painting a Classic Colonial Home in Bloomfield Hills

When your parent already "has everything," you give her a custom painting of the thing she loves most... her home. This recent commission features a traditional colonial right here in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan — a birthday gift from a thoughtful daughter to her mother. (Can we all agree that custom painting beats scented candle every single time?)

The reference photos came from early spring, when the landscaping hadn’t quite gotten the memo about blooming yet. So I took a few artistic liberties: a little greener grass here, a few extra leaves there. The client also requested that I include two tiny rocking chairs on the front porch, complete with teeny tiny throw pillows.

It’s a classic Michigan home with just the right balance of brick, charm, and sentimental detail — and now, a little extra greenery too.
