If you ask me what subject I love to paint most, I have to admit it's not among the bestsellers in my Etsy shop (shout out to home and family portraits).
What I enjoy painting the most is... <insert drumroll> ...FOOD!
That's right, my ultimate dream project is to illustrate a cookbook, in addition to various editorial spots for recipes or anything else culinary related. And so what a joy it is whenever a client commissions a cocktail painting for a wedding bar sign, or a custom recipe illustration or a painting of their husband's favorite beverage, Blueberry Virtue Cider.
"My custom [painting] turned out beautiful! I requested a cider bottle with detailed text and imagery on the label, and I was speechless when I opened my package. Jenny is so talented! I highly recommend."
Virtue Cider is located on a 48-acre sustainable solar powered farm in Fennville, Michigan, very near to where my client resides. The company crafts their cider like wine, using local Michigan apples and no added sugar.
Not only was I eager to paint those luscious blueberries on the label but I always welcome the challenge of perfecting lettering details and rendering shiny glass. The size of the painting was my smallest option (5"x7"), which added yet another layer of difficulty.
So how do I feel about being commissioned for more mini beverage paintings in the future? I'll definitely drink to that!
