Some people measure their kids' growth with pencil marks on the wall. I apparently do it with watercolor paint and paper. My latest example? A mini 5x5 watercolor portrait of my middle child--painted from his baby photo--because he's the reason I became a full-time artist seven years ago.
This new 5x5 size is a first for me, and I love it! It's small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, but still every bit the heirloom keepsake that watercolor portraits are meant to be.
These little portraits make a sweet gift for just about anyone--new parents, a best friend, a neighbor who went above and beyond or even to honor someone you've lost. You could start a tradition of having your kids painted every year (I just might!) or add a generous mat and frame to turn a small piece into a statement.
Tiny art is having a big moment right now, and these are a heartfelt way to bring a piece of original art into your home without going full "wall-sized family portrait." They're proof that sometimes the smallest things hold the most meaning.
