The Art of Remembering: One Life in Two Watercolor Portraits

memorial watercolor portraits

No pressure, just two chances to get it right! This spring, I was commissioned to paint two portraits of a gentleman who recently passed away--one for his wife to keep, and the other as a gift for their son.

The first is more casual, he's in a baseball cap, maybe even at a stadium outdoors. The second is formal and composed, a portrait in a suit that carries a kind of quiet dignity.

They show different sides of him, painted from different times in his life, but both held deeply by the family he left behind. After receiving the portraits, his wife left a five-star review that said:

"I love these [paintings]. They are more personal than a photograph. These mean a lot. I plan to order again."

Even without knowing him personally, it was an honor to help preserve his memory--twice.
