Tigers Opening Day in Detroit: Comerica Park Watercolor

Opening Day in the D always feels like the official start of spring... even if there's still a chance of snow in the forecast. So it felt like the right time to share this little sketch inspired by the front gates of Comerica Park.

For this illustration, I paired the iconic Detroit Tigers sculpture at the stadium's front gate and with the classic Old English D and signage--less of an exact replica, more of a "greatest hits" version in ink and watercolor.

I share a lot of portraits featuring houses and families, but I love stepping outside that box too. Whether its something like this, a favorite stadium, a logo or even a portrait of your favorite athlete, sports-inspired paintings are always fun to play around with--think Detroit Tigers, Lions, Red Wings, Pistons--or wherever else your loyalty lies.
