You can find @JennyPaintsByHand on all of the most popular social media sites, including the neighborhood app Nextdoor. That's where Kathryn first saw my artwork and sent me a message about commission a painting.
If you're not familiar with Nextdoor, it's like Facebook for neighborhoods but with even more complaining and very strange—yet entertaining—requests. Say the guy across the street mows his lawn at 6 am every Sunday and it angers your pet billy goat. Ask for advice on Nextdoor. Or maybe you need to borrow a wheelbarrow to move 600 spools of yarn into your trunk for a school fundraiser tomorrow. Post a request on Nextdoor.
But sometimes you share your artwork on the app and a very nice neighbor named Kathryn messages you about painting a custom home portrait for her dear friends. The family recently moved into a charming colonial in South Lyon, Michigan and this would be the perfect housewarming gift.
"I can't express how much your time, attention to detail and creativity mean to us! I'm so blessed to have been connected with you. Thanks so much!!!" —Kathryn
The new homeowners recently lost a loved one and so to honor their memory, and make the painting even more special, Kathryn asked if I could add Schoolhouse Lily plants into the landscaping. The portrait is just 5"x7" but with some teeny tiny brushes and a whole lot of determination, I was able to squeeze a bunch of lovely red lilies into the front flowerbeds.
I'm so glad Kathryn loves the painting and hopefully her friends do too. And while you won't catch me posting about odd sounds coming from down the street, I will continue sharing my paintings on Nextdoor—and other social platforms—because I never know who might come knocking for some art!
