Painting Parisian Vibes in Los Angeles: Figaro Bistrot (Interior)

Some spaces just demand attention, and others demand patience, precision, and a lot of tiny, tiny brushstrokes. Figaro Bistrot in Los Feliz is very much the latter. This Parisian-style French spot in Los Angeles has all the charm of a classic Paris cafe, but with that LA vibe, which made it an absolute dream (and a serious challenge) to paint.
My client commissioned this hand-painted watercolor interior as an anniversary gift, and capturing the cozy elegance of the space while juggling all the details was a true exercise in focus.
What makes interiors so much trickier than exteriors? Well, for starters, you can’t just paint walls and windows — you have mirrors reflecting scenes you don’t even see directly, glowing interior lights that have to feel warm on paper, and layers upon layers of textures: red leather booths, green emerald chandeliers, rich wood paneling, and an intricate checkered floor. Add in dozens of chairs, tables set with plates and napkins, and a slightly angled perspective... it's the sort of illustration that keeps even an experienced artist on their toes!
Whether your first date spot, the special place you got engaged, or a favorite restaurant where you spend every anniversary — gifting it as a custom watercolor painting? C'est magnifique!
