There are countless ways to customize your watercolor house portrait painting, for example, adding pets, cars, people, text and more! Over the years, I've found my ability to truly make a work of art personalized is one reason why clients choose to commission hand-painted illustrations from me.
Clients sure do love their pets, so it's understandable that one of the most asked questions I get about ordering a custom home portrait is whether pets can be added to them. And yes, they sure can!
Due to size constraints, the option to add pets or people is currently available in the 11x14 and 16x20 selections (shown here). The same is true for vehicles and certain other elements that require a minimum amount of space to render them in an appropriate level of detail.

This watercolor painting was commissioned as a holiday gift for my client's husband, and I was asked to add several elements to really make it extra personalized.
For example, I painted in four of the dogs they've had together over the years (two of whom have passed away). The doghouse her husband's father built many years ago was another added element. The infinity symbol and number 8 both hold special meanings. And finally, her father-in-law’s powder blue Lincoln town car which her husband loves dearly and takes his mother out for a ride in every Sunday.
It keeps my job as an artist interesting to see the many ways clients come up with to personalize their commission pieces. Of course, such customization requires that all of the details are discussed with me BEFORE you place an order. That's because due to the delicate nature of watercolor, it's not possible to make any changes once the inking and painting process begins. When you work entirely by hand, there's no Backspace or Undo button!
